Why Glencore Is A Dirty Word

Australian Workers Film Guide

Summary

A campaign video highlighting the impact of mining giant Glencore Xstrata’s drive in and drive out policy on the local community of Collinsville in North Queensland, which impacts on local employment, schools, business and retail.

Determined to stop their town from dying, locals Donna Bullock and Lori-Anne Williams from Mining Communities United travel to Sydney in search of Xstrata CEO Ivan Glasonberg, with the intention of inviting him to Collinsville to see the situation for himself. Lori-Anne Williams is a 5th generation Collinsville resident, but has seen many of her family members lose their employment in the mine and town, forcing some to move away.

While they are unsuccessful in finding Glasonberg, the video presents the issues and shows stills from Collinsville.
